परित्यजेदर्थकामौ यौ स्यातां धर्मवर्जितौ |
धर्मं चाप्यसुखोदर्कं लोकनिकॄष्टमेव च ||

Let him avoid (the acquisition of) wealth and (the gratification of his) desires, if they are opposed to Dharma (the sacred law); and even Dharma, which may cause pain in future (or result in pain in future) and is condemned by the people or is offensive to the people.

मनु जो संपत्ती तथा मन की अभिलाषा धर्म के विपरित है, उसका त्याग करना चाहिए। इतना ही नही, उस धर्म का भी त्याग करना अनुचित नही होगा जो धर्म भविष्य में संकट उत्पन्न कर सकता है तथा जो किसी समाज के प्राति प्रातिकुल सिद्ध हो सकता है।
